What We Do
The Shining Star Pageant began when Sofia Martinez needed a project for her Girl Scout Silver Award.
She wondered why there weren't any pageants locally for differently abled girls like herself. She quickly worked to resolve this issue. Since 2015, the Shining Star Pageant has been an annual pageant for differently abled girls because everyone is a shining star in our eyes! Our pageant is open to girls Kindergarten to age 40. We want each girl to have a positive experience, gain confidence, and make memories that last a lifetime! CLICK HERE to see more about our special event: https://youtu.be/9Utj-4YUtw8

Community Service
The idea to collect new pajamas came from Sofia's experience when she was airlifted to OHSU. Once she was able to come home— we didn't have any clothes for her to wear. In a rush, we didn't pack any clothes. Afterward, Sofia suggested the idea so others have clothes to wear home from the hospital. Now, each year, participants ask their family, friends, church members, and community to collect new pajamas. We recognize the person who collects the most pajamas in each age group. After the pageant, these new PJs are donated to local hospitals, foster children, and other service organizations. As of 2019, our pageant has collected and donated over 1700 pajamas.
